Dunites Albariño Islay Vineyard 2020
Islay Hill is one of the Nine Sisters — a series of volcanic peaks formed over 20 million years ago that define the coastal landscape of San Luis Obispo County. On the lower slopes of this ancient morro, the Islay Vineyard is planted in sloped granite soils that carry the rare combination of volcanic origin and coastal California climate. It is a site still revealing its secrets.
Albaríno is made famously in Galicia, where the maritime Atlantic climate of northwest Spain suits this high-acid variety perfectly. The SLO Coast offers a remarkably similar environment: regular fog and marine breezes cool the air and create a long, mild growing season ideally suited to the grape’s natural freshness and salinity. The result is an Albaríno that feels both familiar and entirely Californian.
