Description
“This wine is a joy. The vineyard lies a solid two hours into the Sacramento Delta from our home in Napa. After winding over several drawbridges, you find yourself at the entrance of this inconspicuous vineyard. Cool delta air and the old vines means this vineyard ripens slowly, maintaining acidity, and protecting our fruit from overripe flavors. Chenin grown in this terroir reminds us of what I love so much about the varietal – a wine with paradoxical components, showcasing just-ripe, crunchy fruit, yet maintaining a floral aroma, and honey-like mouthfeel. We extract a bit from the skins before going direct to press, treading our whole clusters, and then aging on lees for the entirety of elevage, balancing this wine’s natural austerity. ” From a historic planting in the Clarksburg AVA, these old vines are hand farmed on sandy, seashell strewn soils that were once part of an ancient seabed.
The grapes were whole cluster pressed, fermented in neutral French oak barrels, and aged on lees for 16 months.
Almond skin, freshly cut apples, citrus blossom, and wet stones. Alc: 13.2% pH: 3.31
