Canaille Chardonnay Santa Maria Valley 2022

The 2022 Canaille Chardonnay is a blend of Rancho Vinedo Vineyard, planted 1973 and Tunnels Vineyard, planted 2008. The wine is whole cluster pressed, and sees native fermentation in French oak 225L barrels. There’s no finning or filtering and the wine is aged 10 months in barrel on lees.
Description
Bracing acidity, lengthy and persistent, this wine punches well-above its weight class, and holds its own with Burgundy in the same price point. The prevailing flavor profile leans to tart fruits–more Granny Smith than lychee. Sun-kissed and California to its core, but restrained in style, this wine is more Joan Didion than Kim Kardashian.
