Edaphos Madhavan Vineyard Barbera 2018
Barbera rarely gets the reverence it deserves, but the Madhavan Vineyard expression from Edaphos makes a compelling case. Grown on volcanic tuff soils on a 7.3% slope, this is a wine of saturated colour, generous fruit, and a lively acidity that keeps everything in perfect balance.
Deep purple in the glass, with rich aromas of ripe black fruit, baking spice, black tea, earth, and leather. Lush and succulent on the palate, with pronounced acidity that cuts through the medium-dry tannins and leads to a generous, lingering finish.
Entirely destemmed and fermented in stainless steel, then moved to a Concrete Egg for slow malolactic fermentation. After 9 months, racked to neutral puncheon for a further 6 months. Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur (30 ppm SO₂).
