Fine Disregard Altas Piedras Grenache Alexander Valley 2018

Altas Piedras — Spanish for “high stones” — is an apt name for this small hillside vineyard planted in meta-volcanic rock in the foothills of Eastern Alexander Valley. Head-trained and biodynamically farmed with deficit irrigation, the block of Grenache was grafted to the Alban clone in 2012 and sits mid-slope on the east face of the hill, where it captures the morning sun and benefits from the cooling afternoon breeze.

Spontaneous fermentation (both primary and malolactic) with 100% whole cluster. Light foot treading for the first four days of maceration, followed by gentle pump-overs to optimise extraction. After two and a half weeks on skins, the wine was pressed into neutral puncheons for fourteen months of élevage sur lie, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

A wine of remarkable purity and site expression — only 56 cases produced.
