Kiona Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
The world's finest wines are a reflection of place. Origin and geography matter most when dictating what a finished bottle tastes like — more than winemakers, more than varietals, more than yeast or barrel or blending variables. Wines taste like their place. This wine is built to showcase Red Mountain, and specifically, Kiona's Heart of the Hill and Kiona Estate sites.
It's the answer to the question: "What's so special about Red Mountain?" Built to showcase the AVA, the Estate Red Mountain Reserve features exemplary Red Mountain fruit, acid, and structure. Oak is layered but not dominant, as food-pairability is paramount in Kiona's blending philosophy — a testament to their 40-year tradition.
The 2016 vintage started early, with temperatures in the triple digits in May. The summer was pretty typical — lots of ripening ability and absent of precipitation. Although harvest started early, temperatures cooled nicely in late summer, extending harvest and allowing for great flavour development.
