Old Vine 1901 Mixed Field Blend 2019
A living time capsule rooted in Lake County AVA, this field blend draws from head-trained vines planted in 1901 — dry farmed for the majority of their 120-year history and comprising over sixteen identifiable varieties. It is a wine that speaks directly of its land, and of the people who tended it long before the language of terroir existed in California.
Black cherry, warm liquorice, dried flowers, and sandalwood define the nose, leading to an inviting palate that finishes with fresh, smooth tannins. A wine of remarkable harmony and historical resonance.
Grapes were picked for freshness, fully destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts before 18 months of élevage in French oak. Bottled with fewer than 30 ppm sulphur.
