Description

Jespersen Vineyard lies at the wind swept western boundary of the Edna Valley where the relentless Pacific winds make it the ideal location for crisp, taut Chardonnay. The resulting wine retains freshness and acidity even after barrel fermentation and full malolactic conversion by native yeast and bacteria. Ageing on lees added richness and complexity to the wine before it was bottled sans filtration.

The Chardonnay, from Brian Talley’s vineyard in Edna Valley, is bright, fresh and wonderfully nuanced, all of which make it an absolute joy to taste today. Lemon peel, almond and dried flowers give striking layers of complexity to match its mid-weight personality. Just bottled, the Chardonnay needs time to be at its very best, but it has tons of potential. 91 pts, 2019-2026 Antonio Galloni
