Obsidian Poseidon Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020
Poseidon Vineyard sits at the confluence of Carneros Creek and the Napa River, planted in 1973 by the Molnar Family to the Burgundian varietals: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The maritime environment of Carneros delivers cool, foggy mornings followed by warm days that slowly nurture ripening — ideal conditions for wines of elegance and precision.
The 2019 growing season began wet and cool, but a moderate summer allowed for normal vine development and a slightly above-average crop. A comfortable autumn brought longer hang time, excellent fruit maturity, and superb flavour development. Harvest began at a leisurely pace before quickening in early October. Despite a brief power outage due to wildfire precautions, the cellar team navigated the season with skill — it was, in almost every respect, a textbook year.
The estate Pinot Noir is a blend of two clones — Martini and Dijon 115 — harvested by hand and fermented separately. Once fermentation was complete, the wines were pressed gently into 100% Kádár Tokaj oak, adding a signature spiciness that complements the fruit beautifully. Racked only once before bottling, the result is a pure, fruit-filled expression of Pinot Noir.
